How and when did you start your accessory brand?
I just started the brand in April this year! I guess that is a gift and challenge I give to myself in my 30s. After graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2015, I have worked in the fashion industry and jewellery brands as a visual designer for years. I worked for different kinds of high-streets, luxury and designer brands. I guess this is a path I need to go through to gain and collect skills and experiences from each brand. I did all the branding, shooting, art direction, product curation and print design by myself for REFLECTION.
What are your sources of inspiration?
From different forms of art and nature, such as the organic lines in architecture, the tiles in the temples and the scene in nature like dews on the leaf tip.
How would you describe your design/product concept?
I would say my collections are inspired by the transient beauty of nature. My brand is deeply influenced by the Japanese aesthetic value - Wabi-Sabi. It is about embracing the subtle beauty of impermanence and imperfection in nature and life. "The Whisper of the Wave" and "the Dew in the Dawn" are all transient and beautiful moments of the water. One of our customers told me "I love the poetic view from your accessory" and that makes me feel my work resonates. I wish our products can not just sparkle the reflection of the customers, but also can sparkle their inner universe. I hope they can find their own poetry in our journey.
What's your accessory styling advice for your clients?
I think it is all about balance. When you wear a black dress, you can wear a statement ring and necklace to highlight the look. When you wear a floral print dress, you may choose more minimal rings and necklaces to bring out the clothing. My brand and I celebrate subtle and minimal aesthetics. But I also encourage people to get creative! We will share creative styling tips for silk scarves and rings and the different ways to turn silk scarves into tops. All of the rings in REFLECTION are free-size open rings, so customers may apply them as scarf cuffs or ear cuffs.
How do you feel about showcasing your design at London Accessory Week?
I am excited and thrilled to show my design in LAW. Since London is a city that full of memory to me, It means a lot for me to take part in LAW. I finished my MA in CSM, did internships and worked for several brands. Taking part in LAW is a milestone for me and my brand. Time flies. My last time coming to London was two years ago, I hope I can join the physical stand next year.
Do you have anything else you would like to let London Accessory Week readers and customers know about you and your brand?
We wish our collections bring you timeless style, strength, peace, and joy. Hope our pieces brighten up your day. May you find your poetry in our journey.
